Review of Josie and the Pussycats (2001) by Brendan N — 17 Jan 2019
I liked the energy and the fun of the film, but it is scattered with the storyline and it ruins what could have been a cult gem. As a fan of the Archie line of comics, you are in nerd heaven here, they mention Riverdale and various little comments along the way.
I'm actually amazed they threw so much money at this film, which is typical of the Hollywood style of filmmaking. A quiet and indie film would have connected better with the target audience. The end result is mixed and only offering fun for the first half of the movie.
I liked it, but I was relaxed on a lot of the story beat flaws that hurt the film in the end. Great casting, but incoherent tone results in a film with no true identity. I wanted to love this and hoped it might be a cult film for the new generation.
Sadly no. 13/01/2019.
