Review of Joshua (2002) by J D — 18 Jan 2008
Creeeepy. "The Bad Seed" for the new millenium. Moves at a slow, calculated pace, just like our boy Joshua. Sam Rockwell is great, especially when he realizes just who his son is. He starts acting a bit calculating himself, rather than terrified and confounded, so perhaps there's a little bit of the father in the son after all.
Michael McKean was also a pleasant surprise with a rare serious supporting role that he pulled off with a gravitas I don't expect from him. And Jacob Kogan as Joshua is absolutely chilling. His impassive expression is creepy enough, but the last thing you want to see this kid do is smile, 'cause that bodes well for no one.
