Review of Jonah Hex (2010) by Noel K — 17 Mar 2011
Not as bad as I thought it was going to be, as a matter a fact it was surprisingly entertaining and a lot of fun. Based on the cult DC Comics, it concerns a horribly scarred merciless bounty hunter named Jonah Hex, played superbly by Josh Brolin in a wonderfully game performance, whose wife and young son are murdered by a twisted Confederate General named Quentin Turnbull, played nicely by John Malkovich in one of his trademark villain performances, he was once Hex's commanding officer and now see's him as a traitor.
Trunbull make he watch as he murders his family, then he takes a red-hot branding iron to Hex's face, so he will never forget who took his family away from him forever, Hex is left tied to a cross to die, he is rescued by some Indians who bring him back from the brink of death, as a result he finds that he now as the power to speak to the dead.
Megan Fox plays Lilah a hooker girlfriend of Hex, she provides some gorgeous eye candy, and she suits her role well for the limited level of acting talent she possess, Fox really should of stayed with the "Transformers" franchise.
Hex races against time to stop Turnbull and his band of cutthroats from using a stolen doomsday weapon on Washington D.C. during the Centennial Celebration of the Untied States. Solid action sequences and excellent visual effects, with good supporting performances by Michael Fassbender, Jerry Dean Morgan, Will Arnett, and Tom Wopat, but it is Josh Brolin who totally dominates this motion picture, he completely captures the essence of this comic book character, with his totally compelling performance.
This film is a good guilty pleasure to kill time with. Recommanded.
