Review of Jonah Hex (2010) by Johnny L — 28 May 2011
Watchable but ultimately forgettable comic adaptation. Brolin is great as the lead character and all the supporting cast are fine most notably a creepy Michael Fassbender. The story is wafer thin and just an excuse for endless action sequences that you'll feel you've seen before.
Much like the entire movie really, its probably been harshly treated by the critics (who were probably just after slagging off 'It Girl' Megan Fox and a newly Oscar anointed Brolin) and brings nothing new to the comic book genre movies that are already out there.
One thing I will say though is how dark the film was, I know it was a monumental flop on release at the flicks but its like the distributors have written it off and released the cheapest DVD version of the movie that they could.
The entire movie seems to be in shadow and even when it isn't the picture looked so grainy and cheap it was horrible. Shame, I think this could have been a genuinely decent blockbuster but ultimately I think there have been disagreements somewhere and its ending up being another League of Extroadinary Gentlemen, okay but should have been so much better.
