Although it's thinly scripted, disappointingly short and lacking interesting characters, Jonah Hex still boasts some explosive action scenes and a committed performance from Josh Brolin. But the cast haven't been given much to work with though, Fassbender and Fox are hardly given any time to shine, with only a few lines here and there.

John Malkovich is a decent bad guy but yet again because of the lousy length there's not enough backstory to bring out all the potential evil in his character. The special effects are great though, and the length of the film is also a positive as the story is played out fast and loose, but in many ways it should've been longer, and written better to create involving dialogue scenes, gripping characters and a better face/off between it's hero and villain.

For what it's worth Jonah Hex is a short, sharp and solid supernatural western action movie that won't waste your time, plus it's the only film you're ever likely to see a horse with a gatling gun attached to it.
