Review of Joker (2019) by Sigurkarm — 14 Oct 2019
I can't think of many films that follow a character through their descent into madness so well. The film really is daring and courageous to centre itself on such a perspective without wincing away.
Phoenix deserves to be hailed as one of the best on screen actors of his generation. He is so convincing and uses every cell in his body to portray the mental state of Arthur, and is so precise and distinct with his reactions to the environment that surrounds him, as well as his unveiling past. The thing I like a lot about this film is that it's not disturbing for the sake of it. It's disturbing as a result of the story - where a lot of films sacrifice story for the sake of being disturbing.
