Review of Jojo Rabbit (2019) by Fadeblack — 14 Mar 2021
There is a good bit to say about this film. I love the concept, and I love Taika, and indeed all his parts as Adolf were hilarious. The problem is they only comprise of a very small part of the movie, and at the end amount to little more than a SNL sketch.
The rest about the boy and the girl is at most mildly interesting...there are a couple of dramatic notes that have a strong effect, but other than that it just mostly fell flat. Creating a blend between comedy and drama is tricky and this film unfortunately fell into the neither here nor there category, where instead of complementing each other both elements mostly cancelled each other out.
Again, there are some genuinely funny and moving scenes here, but overall I don't think it worked to the extent that it could have.
