Review of Johnny Mnemonic (1995) by Darryl K — 20 Nov 2010
A great example of how NOT to make a sci-fi flick - a flat cookie-cutter story, horrible direction, acting that is all around bad (another sign of bad direction), and visuals that look like they were imagined while being drunk in a 1980's Japanese disco.
But how did that happen? JM had all the ingredients of a potentially great film - an intriguing concept for the plot written by a sci-fi legend, and one of the most interesting collection of actors for a cast ever (Keanu Reeves, Beat Takeshi, Udo Kier, Dolph Lundgren, Henry Rollins and Ice-T).
But I guess like poor Johnny, they forgot to upgrade the director/producer before downloading all that potential into the production. A shame.
