Review of Johnny Guitar (1954) by C. H — 17 Jun 2008
It is over praised by academics, and well the French, for its psychosexual subtexts (which are not that daring) but this is still worth watching. Itâ??s one of more the more formally compelling Westerns of the 1950s, especially in its use of color.
But I much prefer Sam Fullerâ??s Forty Guns as a film that tries to rewrite the Western through its representations of female sexuality.
