Review of Johnny Got His Gun (2008) by Graham N — 18 Dec 2007
I heard of this film a long time ago and was annoyed to find the film seemingly summarised through out metalica's video for One. But other than explaining the story the video misses the soul of the film.
Like Memento it is a mix of two narratives the Black and white story of the mutalated soilder Jo as he tries to communicate with the world around him and the Colour dreams and memories he has. It is a mixture of sentiment and sympathy of a man in such an awful inhuman situation and the often psychedilic and heart warming images that he replays in his mind.
I loved it as it was powerful and gritty and the ending is more powerful than you can imagine. Plus it has one of my favourite potrayls of Chist played by Donald Sutherland as a man with ideas and abilities but human so faliable.
