Review of Johnny Got His Gun (2008) by Wided F — 27 Mar 2008
I've seen some very good war movies, but personnally this is the best I have ever seen! You don't spend the wholemovie on battle fiels, and hear explosions all the time. It is so subtle that it is much more violent than if you'd see someone explose.
The best anti-war movie I've seen! Though its force is that it doesn'tmake statements: anti or pro-war. No, it's just you, who for 90 minutes are inthe mind and body of the protagonist...I only saw it once, nearly 25 years ago, but I never forgot its title, the director who also wrote it and some of the most heartbreaking scenes.
You HAVE to see it. And please, if you ever think of enrolling to participate to a war, watch that movie first. It's just show that when there's a war, everyone is a victim. And sadly, there many more soldiers who get out of the war, but in what state??????? Morally (like the Deer Hunter) or physically.
The movie is not only good bc of the subject but in my memory bc of the way it was directed and edited. I'd love to see it again..The worst thig of all is that like in any war, the superiors who make the decision of sending kids to get wrecked know perfectly well what they will have to face.
But Generals and others don't see their faces and names, just a chess game they're sure to win, whatever the number of "pieces" they have to sacrifice.
