Like many people, I discovered this movie because it was used in the video for One by Metallica. Later, I found out that it was directed by blacklisted screenwriter Dalton Trumbo based on his own novel.
It wasn't all I hoped for after waiting years to see it, but I do think it shows the futility of war and has a very depressing ending, which only adds to the theme.
