"Johnny Gaddaar" is one of the best Bollywood films in recent years. It's inspired by Bollywood's 60's and 70's crime films and directly references them in the film however that doesn't mean the film is not fresh, quite the contrary the film stands high above most other Bollywood films these days because of its style and creativity.

The film is utterly cool, engrossing and unpredictable and it helps that it lacks songs (a staple in most Bollywood films). The film is clearly a signal that things are changing in Bollywood. It's a ground breaking film that hopefully more filmmakers will take a cue from.

This is how Bollywood thrillers should be made-realistic and simple characters stuck in impossible situations filmed with style and spunk. As I said, the characters are simple...I say that because they aren't shown to be these other-worldly, criminal masterminds.

They are ordinary people...who have dreams and hopes. They want quick cash, as so many others and try to get it in illegal ways. "Johnny Gaddaar" benefits from revolving the film around these characters.

The cast is composed mostly of dependable character actors who all do a fine job. Neil Nitin Mukesh, makes his debut and he doesn't disappoint. Overall, I've seen this film already 3 times this year and its rewarding each time.

Truly, one of the special films.
