Review of Johnny English Reborn (2011) by Anssi V — 02 Jan 2012
A bit of a hit and miss. Some scenes are hilarious, with Rowan Atkinson performing at his best and showing us once again why he's a great comedian - the parkour chase comes to mind. Unfortunately those moments are not as common as one would hope, with most of them giving far too much room to old and re-used jokes - some of them from other Bond spoofs, some of them from the first Johnny English movie.
Plus the acting and the characters were just awful. Though there were some good characters as well. I honestly liked Agent Tucker (Daniel Kaluuya) for example. Not the most original of characters, but there was a certain innocent charm to him.
So yes, if you liked the first movie, I would at least urge you to give this one a try. But for the haters of the original, I must tell that this is just more of the same. It's your quintessential sequel.
Not the worst one of its kind, but a sequel nonetheless.
