Review of Johnny English Reborn (2011) by David B — 29 Oct 2012
The humor isn't as dual-edged as, say, a Pixar comedy. But director Oliver Parker knows his genre well enough to lampoon the mainstays of the spy-flick genre, from impossibly high-tech weapons to foot chases worthy of Olympic medals.
The set pieces are really well done and really funny and there are alot of jokes that have never been down before, e.g Driving around the ton in the Helicopter. This isn't saying much but this is way better than the first one, with a slightly better plot and even though Rowan Atkinson is dead-panly great, it doesn't really show off what a great slap-stick person he can be and doesn't truly show-off his skills.
Having said that, it is a good spoof of all James Bond. Some great crude moments and is a bit grown-up than the first film. Luckily you don't need to have seen the first film to appreciate it's silliness.
If you love the "Bean" TV shows and movies you'll love this. Better than I thought it would be and a film that doesn't need to continue.
