Review of Johnny English (2003) by Naische F — 06 Mar 2009
Excellent spy-comedy starring Rowan Atkinson ('Mr Bean', 'The Black Adder') as a cross between Inspector Clouseau ('The Pink Panther') and Lt Frank Drebin ('The Naked Gun').
Definitely for fans of the genre and vastly superior to a lot more recent efforts, such as, Steve Martin's awful 'Pink Panther' remakes or Leslie Neilen's 'Spy Hard'. We have an excellent villain in John Malkovich as Frenchman Pascale Sauvage who rivals the best villains ever in cinema history.
Australian singer Nathalie Imbruglia plays an excellent Bond-girl who is up there with the best. This works because the main lead actually believes that he is the greatest spy and plays it straight. Great film and entertainment with lots of laughs.
