Review of Johnny Dangerously (1984) by Troy F — 07 Nov 2014
Johnny Dangerously has a clear focus on what it's parodying, but a lot of the humour can fly over you before you realize there was supposed to be a joke. It's either a step ahead of the audience, or awfully subtle at times.
The film can be quite funny, but there's this delay where you have to think about the jokes that took place before deciding whether to laugh or not, which feels delayed and awkward. Maybe it's me, who knows.
Johnny Dangerously does still make for a lightly enjoyable spin-off of gangster films of the 30's (or just in general), it's just a bit of hit and miss.
