Review of Johnny Belinda (1948) by Melanie K — 10 Jun 2007
While not overtly graphic (it was made in '48, so it hardly could be) the movie is well done and powerful. It makes you uncomfortable as you come to realize the truth it portrays and the evil mankind is capable of inflicting on the weak.
Even decent people tend to react badly to people who are "different", often putting them in impossible situations. The synopsis makes it sound like a soap opera, but it's really a commentary on social injustice and the abilities of those society turns its back on.
