Review of John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017) by Alex B — 02 Apr 2018
It's not as nuanced as John Wick 1, but fans don't fear! It's not the mess that The Matrix sequels turned out to be. A cohesive story with deeper connotations is still there, but the action has been doubled, nearly tripled, and an increase in quality on all ends is clear! Keanu Reeves, a man misunderstood by critics and movie goers alike, can now rest comfortably in a role that, like Wick's well tailored bullet resistant jacket, suits him perfectly.
What has been established here is a perfectly crafted noir movie escape from reality that somehow grounds itself in a perfect level of plausibility. A throwback to Japanese anime, Korea's The Man From Nowhere, and those perfectly choreographed Chinese/Hong Konger action films where you see every actor punch, kick, and roll on the ground in some BJJ armbar lock.
