Review of John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017) by Calumrhysuk — 08 Apr 2017
In regards to action, this film is utterly fantastic, the execution of stunts, the fluent choreography and fresh depiction of violence, it makes for an excellent follow-up to its predecessor.
'John Wick: Chapter 2' continues from where the first one left off, and turns its action all the way to eleven. Personally I still prefer the original due to its indie feel, this one feels like Hollywood have tried to take a slice, but it is still nonetheless a defining moment in the action genre. The smart suits, the stunning architecture, the eccentric personas and the camera that never shies away, however I find Riccardo Scamarcio's character less of an "evil" character in comparison to Alfie Allen in the first one, thus not caring too much of his outcome, but it's just so hard to diminish how good of a film this is.
If this and the first film are anything to go by, John Wick will gain his status as an iconic cinema character and one day stand upon other action greats like John McClane and James Bond, here's hoping to a successful future for the franchise. This isn't mindless action, this is smart, well-executed action with a purpose. Action like no other.
