Review of John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017) by Andy B — 25 Feb 2017
John Wick was smokin', but John Wick Chapter 2 is the fire. It caught me off guard- for the first ten minutes it was the sequel I predicted, a good follow up to the original but not much else. Then it quickly shifts gears past the Tarasov reprisal and goes bonkers.
A new storyline begins on a global scale, quite spectacularly raising the level of intensity and drama. And onscreen violence. With the body count and viciousness well past the limits of any Rodriguez or Tarantino film it would, on paper, seem like an overly gratuitous death orgy- and it kind of is.
But it's so cleverly executed and choreographed that the killing spree achieves a sort of artistic absurdity that is gloriously entertaining. Full of nuance, visually mindblowing, stylish, without restraint, the directorial skill of Chad Stahelski is on display again.
Pow pow pow! John Wick Chapter 2 will not be forgotten.
