Review of John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017) by Javier C — 19 May 2017
As action films go this is a very high bench mark for other films to follow. The first film set the storyline in motion and this film builds the universe into something grand. There are no arguments, this film is stronger than the first and that's a tall order for a film that was great too.
The atmosphere and action scenes are dialled up to 11 with an unforgettable action scene in the modern art gallery. The strong story builds directly from the events of the first film and we rarely have a chance to rest with each action beat.
Keanu Reeves has bounced back, quite similiar to what Speed did and The Matrix did for his career. The action is expertly choreographed and that final battle is brutal and amazing to watch. It's refreshing to watch a film that is built on a fraction of the ridiculous universe building films budget.
I didn't realize I missed this genre so much, the feel is 80s revenge but that is only a weak comparison by myself. The setting of number 3 is there and I suspect it might be the conclusion to the franchise but I think this series has a long life if they want it.
This is a must see 2017 film, incredible. 21-05-2017.
