Review of John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017) by Robby K — 18 Jun 2017
Keanu Reeves has had a very inconsistent career, and I myself have been very critical of his acting in the past. When I saw him in the first John Wick film however, I knew it was the perfect role for him.
Now reprising his role as the titular character for this sequel, he cements the character as a potential icon for this generation of action movies. The villain isn't as compelling as Michael Nyqvist's Viggo from the first film and Wick's motivation lacks a little sense.
But the action is still fantastic, and the world that surrounds John Wick is expanded upon even more. Chad Stahelski is growing his skills as a director along side this franchise as he's shown good improvements from this first film to this one.
He has now proven that he isn't a one off director and the inevitable third film, assuming he returns to do it, is certainly in good hands. "John Wick: Chapter 2" isn't quite on the level of the first one.
.. but it's pretty close.
