Review of John Wick (2014) by Ginak — 25 Oct 2014
John Wick was a disappointment, but some problems may have been caused by the theater I saw it in. The worst problem was the intrusiveness of the “musical” score, which I think would have worked great as background to the action, but was either deliberately too loud in the print or the theater jacked up the sound out of incompetence.
Other than that I enjoyed all the “character actors” in supporting roles, and Keanu Reeves was (I guess) as good as he could be in the lead role. He did have presence and was fun to watch. As for the rest, there was not much plot and few surprises, a bit too many “head shots” to the point where they got boring (!).
Other than a nice gray tone and some swanky sets, this movie was surprisingly dull for an “action” film. I can see why it didn’t make #1 at the box office this week.
