Review of John Wick (2014) by Daniel L — 18 Dec 2015
Any Keanu Reeves fan will be more than happy to see him in one of his best, if not the best roles since Neo in The Matrix. Best American action, martial arts film in a long while, that runs on a solid, original plot and an amazing leading man in the form of the ever dedicated ass kicking Keanu Reeves.
What sets this apart from other action movies? The focus on character and story, the scenery conveying the mental state of Wick, every little detail serving as clues to something bigger, something that needn't be spoken, the wide shots and gritty realism of the fight sequences, the dedication you see by Reeves when he pulls a henchman down for a Jit Jitsu brawl or transitions from rifle to pistol as if he's been doing it for ages! Now maybe, we can cement in our minds Reeves as a dedicated actor, one who looks deeper into his role to properly convey that person's character to us.
