Review of John Wick (2014) by 5Am 5 — 31 Jul 2018
While it doesn't have much of a plot, one thing John Wick succeeds at is the action. John Wick has some of the best action I have ever seen in a movie grounded in reality (i.e. neither fantasy nor sci-fi, including superhero movies).
The gunplay is extremely fun and cathartic. Before that, the movie starts off with a fairly somber tone. Keanu Reeves shows that he actually can act and even explains his reason why he's avenging his dog.
Speaking of avenging his dog, this movie should've been cringy for the fact that the premise was being done completely with a straight face and unironically, particularly since the story actually sounds like a black comedy.
But the execution is so well done that you forget how stupid the premise actually sounds. John Wick is one of Keanu Reeves' best movies since The Matrix and I'm looking forward to getting to watch the sequel.
