Review of John Wick (2014) by Hazel H — 06 Feb 2017
John Wick was directed by David Leitch and Chad Stahelski and stars Keanu Reeves as the titular character John, a retired assassin whose wife falls ill and dies. While in mourning, John is wronged by the son of the leader of the Russian crime syndicate in New York City, spurning him into a path of revenge.
There are a couple things you need to know before watching this movie. First, this movie is directed by two former stuntmen, so the action choreography is spectacular. Second, Keanu Reeves still has it! I had a lot of fun watching this kick-ass movie. The plot, while predictable, pulled me in right away (you'll understand why after the first 15 minutes). The dialogue was pretty clunky at times. But WHO CARES? This is the kind of movie you watch and get hyped during with friends. "Did you see that? Amazing! Woah!" That kind of movie. Alfie Allen (Theon Grejoy in Game of Thrones) does a good job acting like a prick as usual, and Ian McShane always provides interesting characterization. There isn't much else to say about this movie because there isn't a lot to it. If you love action, go watch it!
Final grade: B.
