Review of John Rabe (2009) by Waiyen W — 26 Sep 2010
... another offering from the German film fest in SG this year. Touching account of how John Rabe was instrumental in saving the Chinese in Nanking from the Japanese. I think the movie appealed to me partly because of the setting in history, the demonstration of the human spirit in serving others before self, of perseverance and upholding values.
.. a few rather emotional scenes, some tension. I particularly enjoyed the weaving in of historical footages of the war. Not an exceptional plot but it had a good pace. Perhaps a tad too much glorification of John Rabe's character.
..? On the whole, it was very heartwarming and uplifting.
