Review of John Q (2002) by Sarah S — 02 Nov 2008
Denzel plays a man whose son needs a heart transplant, but because he couldn't afford to pay for it, the hospital refuses to perform the surgery, and a desperate Denzel takes matters into his own hands.
Aside from the obvious medical inacuracies (I don't anyone can talk while intubated...) I didn't find this too bad. A very emotional performance by Denzel. The film makes a strong argument for universal healthcare in the US.
It was a very bleak commentary on the financial ruin Americans can face if they get ill, let alone need a heart transplant.
