Review of John Q (2002) by Chris-Leanne C — 03 Nov 2010
IMDb gave this movie a 6/10, and I am giving this movie a 3/5. I decided that rating before I looked at any review.
John Q is a movie that tries to keep you on the edge of your seat. For some, this can be true, but I found myself hating this movie.
During the first few scenes I found myself liking the character and his family, but that all faded after two words came up. As soon as the words "health insurance" came up, I looked at my wife and said to her, "This movie has an agenda that it will pushed, and it will destroy the writing.".
Pushing agendas is a big no no in my book, because it ends up taking away from the story. After the agenda became known, I began predicting the storyline, which made the movie really boring for me. My wife predicted the significance of the very first scene, and I had to agree with her. ***SPOILER***I easily predicted the gun being empty, the sniper never getting a critical shot, the heart arriving in time, and him being found innocent of all.
Major crimes except imprisonment.***SPOILER***.
After the agenda of the movie became known to me, I no feelings towered John and his family of three. It has also, yet again, proven to me that movies with pushed agenda suffer in the story writing. This was one of the better ones, but I still only think that it was only worthy of a 3/5 or 6/10, as IMDb gives.
