A bit unevenly paced, but echoing the very best cinematic science fiction, from Star Wars to Superman (because its source material inspired them, of course), John Carter is a rich, thrilling moviegoing experience, and is the second film in short order (after Brad Bird's Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol) to demonstrate how filmmakers from Pixar ought to just direct everything.
