I don't understand why this flopped? It's a really good film and should get a sequel, but probably won't. Which is a great shame.
If you like sci-fi fantasy (Star Wars/stargate) you'll enjoy this. It's full of action and is epic in its setting. My only issue with it is that it's a bit slow starting, but once John Carter arrives on mars the pace really picks up.
If you haven't seen it, I recommend you give it ago.
