John Carter (2012).

Edgar Rice Burroughs is best known for his Tarzan stories, but not many know that he has also written a series of science fiction/fantasy stories based on John Carter of Mars. His stories have been so fantastic that there was no way that these stories could be brought to the big screen until now with the use of computer animation.

The technology is now here and Disney made a valiant effort to show us all of the fantastic creatures, flying boats and the spectacular effects from the mind of Burroughs. Unfortunately, his writings were from way back in the 20s and 30s and many of his ideas have long since been used in many other science fiction movies that they have become cliched. Star Wars, Avatar and many other films borrowed from Edgar Rice Burroughs.

As a fan of the books, I can really appreciate this movies for what it is, but it didn't really get the recognition that it deserved. Despite it not being a big box office hit, I still think that it's a good movie to see.

John Carter (Taylor Kitsch) is a Civil War veteran, who is somehow teleported all the way to Mars, that it's inhabitants call Barsoom. The planet is deep in a war between it's humanoid creatures while being manipulated by a race of inter-dimensional beings. Here, Carter is able to leap high up in the air and was able to rescue a princess, Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins) from a crashing air ship.
