OK, the green-skinned aliens are kind of goofy looking, but not nearly as goofy as most of the stuff in Star Wars, and the story here is pretty good, and the action sequences--miracle of miracles--don't run on any longer than they need to run.
This is a film based on a series of novels begun in 1917 by a man born in 1875. But if you like a little sword and sorcery with your scifi you'll probably like "John Carter.
