Review of Joe's Apartment (1996) by Dean Redman A — 31 May 2010
I hate roaches, but if they actually sung and helped me out once in a while like these guys did for Joe then we could probably get along.
This movie ranks right up there as one of the most bizarre movies I've ever watched. It's almost like MTV tried making a live-action version of a rejected Disney musical. Despite disgusting song titles like Funky Towel, I actually enjoyed the musical numbers. Sure it was crude and a little gross, but I have to admit that I really liked it.
And there is a pretty good story here, about as good as you'd expect for a musical I suppose. The music is really what makes the movie shine though, along with the exploits of Joe's roach-roommates.
I guess even roaches can have good hearts.
