Review of Joe Versus the Volcano (1990) by Hugo F — 02 Jan 2008
Its not the greatest framing for an intellectual story. I mean he's just out of work and he's going to kill himself in exchange for one last big shopping spree. A typical American fantasy. And yet, there is something about the last few days of his life that brings all of the unexpected beauties we always miss so much more into the present and I for one would love to see a moon the size of a trampoline shoot up out of the ocean.
I wish he could have jumped on it. The purposely amateurish special effects in the film are the heart of its charm. I think they stole the idea from Mother Goose.
