Review of Joe Strummer: The Future Is Unwritten (2007) by Anat A — 14 Nov 2007
A worthy documentary on the late " Punk War Lord," Joe Strummer. Obscure/never-before-seen footage of Strummer's childhood/adolescence is incorporated into the chronicling of this "mouthy little git's" transformation .
This of course is exciting to any Clash fan. The movie assumes the viewer has ample background on the band so it may be a bit daunting to a novice. The celebrity commentary and anecdotes of his 101ers/Mescaleros band mates are very interesting.
Temple makes a balanced and very human documentary, showing both Strummer's shortcomings as well as his accomplishments and deeds. Although this documentary is thoroughly enjoyable and inventive, it falls a bit short of Don Letts' " Let's Rock Again.
".
