Review of Joe Somebody (2001) by David F — 15 Dec 2008
Not a big fan of Allen really, so it's a good thing this film's redeeming qualities fall on the always-capable talents of Patrick Warburton! He is excellent as the office bully. Also good is a pre-Heroes Hayden Panettiere as Joe's daughter (it coulda been a "one-note" role but she brings a nice reality to it) and a washed up action hero played by Belushi! Other than that this story is completely formulaic sitcom material.
It's theme is thoroughly confused, at first it's a "stand up for yourself" and then it turns into "fighting is bad". Whatever. Sure, Allen is trying to appeal to "Joe Everybody" but it just doesn't work.
