Review of Joe (2014) by Tor M — 27 Oct 2014
This flick is pretty much dealing with Nicolas Cage as an ex-con and at the same time a role model for the other lead - Tye Sheridan from "Mud". Speaking of "Mud", it's easy to call these films similiar. They are rednecky, dirty, trashy and the people are poor. Pretty much negative stuff.
While "Mud" had a nice tensity this film fails to get this piece right. It got dark moments, raw moments and some humourus ones, but it's never really exciting.
Cage does OK in something that can be described as a a-typical role for him. I like many characters, the acting is all right, but the best feature here may be the music. Joe is an all right film, but for me it will always be "Mud's" little brother.
6 out of 10 poison axes.
