Review of Joe (2014) by Zac C — 12 Apr 2014
Well, it was different. David Gordon Green sure has had an interesting career as a director thus far. The first movie I saw of his was Undertow. A serious drama. I have not yet seen Snow Angels. But after those two he directed Pineapple Express, Your Highness and The Sitter.
So I figure he's done with comedy for a little bit and got back to serious drama in this movie. Nick Cage does a good job in this but Tye Sheridan once again shines in a country-ish drama. We get some great camera work in this one.
I think one of Green's best strengths is knowing how to mix music and imagery to create moments. Throughout all of his films you can see these moments. Some of his films don't come together, but this one did.
It's definitely worth seeing. The first hour is a good story arch setting up the next 45 minutes of crazyness. Check it out.
