Review of Joe (2014) by Matthew B — 16 Apr 2014
While it's definitely over-dramatic in some parts, I think David Gordon Green's ability to capture the gritty, low-ridden areas of certain environments and the people that naturally inhabit these environments is what makes the film very interesting.
This is in Nicholas Cage's top 5 or 10 best roles and he plays it very meticulously and almost effortless. The directing is meandering in tone sometimes, but I'm amazed David Gordon Green can go from films like "Your Highness" to small, quiet character studies like these.
