Review of Joe (2014) by Pam D — 27 Sep 2014
Simliar to Winter's Bone and Mud in form and content, like the oher two films this one successfully paints a chilling portrait of contemporary Americana in our rural south. Deeply flawed and troubled, Nic Cage plays Joe superbly and his performance really resonates.
His relationship with Tye Sheridan works well, and the kid is excellent once again as he was in Mud. My only problem with the film was the density of the narrative as it was often very hard to follow and left me questioning where the film was at several times.
The cinematography for the film was good, but very dark often adding to the narrative confusion since there was so much left unseen. Still, a pretty good film.
