Review of Jodorowsky's Dune (2013) by Azrafael A — 05 Nov 2014
In 1975, after achieving cult status with his first 2 films, Alexandro Jodorovsky was given carte blanche to make a Hollywood blockbuster. He chose to adapt Frank Herbert's epic fantasy novel Dune.
Assembling a wealth of talent, he produced an extremely detailed storyboard book including shot analysis, character & set design and production details so intricately detailed that reading it gave you the perfect imagining of the film he wished to make. Copies of the book were passed to all the major studios who all rejected the concept.
This documentary tells the story of the pre-production of the greatest movie never made and how the production design detailed in the book influenced a plethora of modern sci-fi.
It's a fascinating and enlightening film study that will leave you longing to see this unmade masterpiece.
