Review of Jodhaa Akbar (2008) by Priya S — 11 Aug 2008
Another winner from Ashutosh Gowariker. You should watch the movie just for the beauty of the Urdu and Hindi languages. Khwab, khwaish, jannat ,mahatrapurna... ohh goosebumps.
Ofcourse, Hrithik is the other cause of goosebumps. Aishwarya did what was asked of her : effectively potraying a lovely , vulnerable , opinionated princess. Shes got that genre down.
I really liked that this movie did not fall into the melodramatic traps that most Indian ( and many period) pieces suffer from. The portrayal of Akbar was one-sided. We did not see much of the ruthless , egotistical, philandering polygamist that he was .But then again, focusing on those things would make this a docudrama !
And lets not forget that Rahman's soundtrack is stunning. One of my all time favorites.
