Review of Jodhaa Akbar (2008) by Sama M — 31 Jul 2010
Cool movie. Obviously, the message was of religious tolerance, which is definitely a plus in today's society. I wish more people in the West could see this depiction of a Muslim society that isn't completely bogged down in being devoted to killing all non-Muslims. I realize that it's a somewhat...idealistic...interpretation of the time period, but it shows that you CAN have Islam without being focused on terrorism, stonings, book-burnings, and honor-killings.
In addition, I found it interesting to contrast in my mind the differences between the colorful and life-affirming cultures of the Muslim and Hindu societies of the 16th century...with the drab, heresy-and-death-obsessed world of Christianity during the same period.
