Review of Jobs (2013) by Aliette S — 13 Feb 2014
As inspirational as it is interesting. The movie is a historical glimpse of birth of the home computer, Apple Computer company and the growth of the Silicon Valley.
I spend a number of formative years growing up across the street from Apple and believe the movie does an incredible job of capturing the "spirit" of the Silicon valley in the early 80's. A community of very health minded people with a drive to be wealthy and successful.
A movie that does not attempt to give credit to a man where it is Not due. Steve Jobs was neither a charismatic nor a friendly man. He was, as the movie makes clear, a self-centered, self indulgent, creative nerd. Albeit, the "coolest" of the nerds.
The audience is never clear on wether or not the connections Jobs made with other people within in lifetime contributed to his motivation. Or if he in fact, made any intimate connections at all. Perhaps this is the cost of genius.
Nevertheless, Jobs' vision which embraced innovation, in addition to his ability to drive others to create something beyond their own imaginations more often then not comes across as outright cruel.
I enjoyed the movie more for the historical summary of the Man who changed the world as opposed to feeling entertained. The Actors are exceptional, as is the writing and the scenery. "Jobs" the movie, captures a period of time this country has not seen since Ford gave us the automobile and is worth watching. (Fresh Tomato).
