Review of Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work (2010) by Caleb M — 24 Jul 2010
An unflinching look at a year of someone's life in showbiz. You really feel that Rivers just let the crew follow her around while doing her everyday thing and it provides some hilarious and insightful truths into the world she lives in.
Her world is full of regret, fear, work, and humor. She never lets a good joke go unsaid, especially if it's about her. Her sense of humor and how serious she takes it comes to frightening light in one scene where she confronts a heckler and wins over the crowd, with a 9/11 joke! She really has stage presence and a brilliant sense of timing and wit after everything she's lived through.
See this movie; it's funny, smart, insightful and compelling, plus at 84 minutes you can't use the "I don't have 2+ free hours to spare" excuse.
