Review of Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work (2010) by Lucas R — 27 Dec 2010
This documentary about a year in the life of the groundbreaking senior citizen comic isn't afraid to show Rivers in unflattering ways. You have to give her credit for her moxie here. For a woman who does not take criticism well, she let the filmmakers get her at her rawest moments.
There are times where you simply stare at her face and wonder what the hell was she thinking. There is little of her stand-up represented here - mostly a behind the scenes profile of a pop legend who makes it clear she plans to keep going until she drops.
And that's OK by me.
