Review of Jiro Dreams of Sushi (2011) by Todd G — 04 Apr 2012
Not afraid to address the tough questions, even while praising the dedication of this sushi chef, this is a tribute to food and the attempt to touch perfection.
The insight into the man is perhaps incomplete, but the view of what he does and how it affects his family and the culture of Japan is deep and moving. And don't go to see this movie on an empty stomach.
The beautiful cinematography is marred by some white balancing issues, but the RED certainly gives great results and works hard to shoot in available lighting. Music by Phillip Glass gives some Koyaanisqatsi-like flavor to the coverage shots and sushi making.
