Review of Jiro Dreams of Sushi (2011) by Mloy X — 25 Aug 2012
"I've never once hated this job. I fell in love with my work and gave my life to it. Even though I'm eighty five years old, I don't feel like retiring. That's how I feel.".
--- Jiro Ono (Master Sushi Chef and Owner of Sukiyabashi Jiro).
EXCELLENT!!! By far, the most perfect documentary I have ever seen. I'd give this film a 10 rating if Flixter would let me! This was completely wonderful! I absolutely adore it and encourage anyone and everyone to go watch it because it is simply awesome!!! This is not only superb because of the deliciousness of the subject matter: sushi, but also because Mr. Jiro Ono is truly an inspiration and his philisophy regarding work, family/children, professional and personal relationships and life in general is just absolutely profound! I mean, total-Nirvana-esque, epiphany-inducing, profound!!! Plus Mr. Ono is absolutely charming and so charismatic, he was a true delight to watch and made the whole film just seem to whiz by. All of a sudden it's over, but it leaves you wanting more. But like Mr. Ono said, the reason for his success didn't solely rest on his shoulders-- it is because of everyone: his sons, his staff, his vendors and even his customers and it's true! Every single person who was interviewed for this documentary was so fascinating and had so much interesting kernels of knowledge to share that it leaves you just mesmerized and hanging on to every word, especially the words of wisdom from Mr. Jiro. I was pleasantly suprised that throughout the film, I also had a silly grin plastered on my face like a fool-- Mr. Ono, just has this resonating appeal that just makes you want to give him the biggest bear hug ever!!!.... but only if you ask his permission first. Mad props to Mr. Ono, his family, his staff, the vendors, the food critic, everyone!!! His restaurant it so going on my Bucket LIst!!! This completely and totally rocked!!! I ABSOLUTELY LOVED, LOVE THIS DOCUMENTARY. YOU RULE MR. JIRO ONO!!!
